Zeus was our mostly companion, our side-kick, our fuzz therapy, our study buddy. Our boy had one thousand nicknames, including Zeussie, Zeussy, Zeussel, Munchkin, and Mister Dog. His snaggletooth endeared him to humans everywhere and his favorite dog park “chase me” game drew dogs of all sizes.
He was 32% Pug; 48% Rottweiler, Australian Cattle Dog, Chow Chow, Pit Bull, Jack Russell, Border Collie, Boxer, German Shepherd, Brittany, and Australian Shepherd; and 20% unknown: the perfect mix; he was intelligent and communicative.
Originally from near the Oregon-California border, Zeus adopted his people at the Oregon Humane Society on November 7, 2010. As a way to give back to OHS for finding his furever family, he participated in many fundraisers throughout his life, including Santa Paws, Pug Crawl, and the OHS – Hollywood Grocery Outlet Pets-Rival Halloween costume contest, which he won in 2019, dressed as a hot dog.
He was the 12,917th member of the University of Washington and Texas A&M University Dog Aging Project pack and a member of its Precision Cohort. He participated in annual cognitive games and surveys as a citizen-scientist to further research on aging.
Although he traveled the length of the West Coast from near the land border with Mexico to the maritime border with Canada, his favorite places were close to home: Thousand Acres at Sandy River Delta Recreation Area, Sellwood Riverfront Park, and of course, his backyard, where he prowled at night and sun bathed during the day.
His 15 years were spent as the center of attention, surrounded by love and treats. We miss him terribly and love him always.
