In May 2007, pint-size & merely 8 weeks old, a tiny furball with a kinked tail named Casper from Forget Me Not Animal Shelter sprung into my life. For nearly 17 years, he showed me he was the best lovebug, showered me with massive amount of affection, cuddles and snuggles, and his unwavering love. His cuteness and silliness entertained me endlessly. Through and with him, I became a better human being, and a more genuine animal lover: I became a vegetarian, I minimized purchasing goods with animal products, I setup an animal charity fund through Fidelity Charitable and make annual donations to various animal shelters and organizations.

Casper was diagnosed with liver disease and hyperthyroidism in spring 2020. He received great veterinary care from All About Cats in Kirkland and was stable for the last 3+ years. In September, he seemed to have developed megacolon, and his health was going through ups and downs. After a few ER & vet visits, he seemed stable for about 3 weeks. But this past Monday, he didn’t care to eat even on increased dosage of appetite stimulant. He went to the ER again Monday night, rested for a day, went to a regular vet Wednesday afternoon – neither was able to pinpoint to what his problem was, while Casper continued to become weaker.

On Dec 7th around 1pm, he had a violent vomit and    it contained a lot of blood. Was I to take him for another ER visit? Would they have a magical pill to make him all well again? He was already so frail and bony; it made my heart ache to see him in that state. However gut-wrenching it was, I contacted Compassionate Care to say goodbye to Casper at home held tight in my arms and his brother Mozart by our side.

My little lovebug Casper is now in kitty heaven. My heart is broken missing him to no end, but I’m happy that his agony is over – no more multiple pills a day and fluids every other day. I’m eternally grateful for having him in my life, for his love, affection and devotion, and for making me a better human being. I love you to pieces Casper, always have, always will.

To remember my beloved Casper, I made a $3K donation to Project Street Vet who provides pro-bono veterinary services to pets of homeless people, in Casper’s name.
