For your whole life, whenever we had to leave the house, you knew that if we said “later” instead of “bye-bye”, you couldn’t come with us this time. You were the entirety of the stuff that filled in all the gaps in my life and made a broken heart whole. I knew for years that you could suddenly have to leave me, which did nothing to prepare me for the day it happened. I hope you’re with Grandpa and Starry Girl. I hope you’re healthy and strong again. I hope you are too busy soaking in the sun and playing tag to miss me.
I wasn’t ready for YOU to say “later” to ME but I am thankful it was “later” and not “bye-bye”.
